The colour of a diamond is a very important quality to consider when choosing a diamond, as it is the most visually obvious.
This grading should more appropriately be defined as the absence of colour, as the less visibly obvious the colour the more valuable the stone.
The most sought after are those that are termed 'white' diamonds, yet they are not so much white as colourless. The colourless diamonds are D,E, and F. G,H,I and J are near colourless. Diamonds that have a colour grading of K onwards are considered to be tinted white.
Intensely coloured diamonds are very rare, and are also very attractive and desirable. Coloured diamonds command high prices, often much more than colourless diamonds. These intensely coloured diamonds are known as "Fancy" coloured or "Fancies". They exist in yellow, greens, brown, red, orange, pink, and other colours.
